On Thursday 4th August YSWN met in Sheffield at Access Space.
Sara told us that she has had more interest in her work as See Pereria from Italian netlabel Statto Elettrico and that they will be releasing some more of her work. Sara has also contributed some instrumental tracks to be featured on the upcoming YSWN videos which have been commissioned as part of Catalyst Festival.
Susanne introduced the International Conference on Live Interfaces, which examines innovative live interfaces through a series of talks and performances. The next conference will be held in 2018, but it has not yet been decided who will host it. As part of the discussion Lucy brought up the work of the Orchestra for Females and Laptops (OFFAL), a non-hierarchical group for women who want to make music with other women via laptops. The group performs from multiple locations via the internet. Anybody can join OFFAL if they are a women and make music using a laptop – so get in touch with them if you want to find out more.
The group discussed some ideas for networking events:
- A ‘speed dating’ type event with a chance to briefly introduce yourself and your interests to different people
- A networking scheme for women who are new in Sheffield and interested in sound and music technology
- Susanne told the group about Bloc Studios artists meeting, which may be open to YSWN folk
The group also discussed the upcoming AlgoMech Festival which explores the concepts of algorithmic and mechanical movement. The theme of the festival is ‘making as performance’ and will consist of a symposium and a series of performances and installations, of which several contributors are active within YSWN.
